One of the biggest challenges in the design of the DEFT excavator was the ability to change tools quickly and conveniently. The designers overcame this obstacle by incorporating a tool changer library below the operating room. By simply rotating the tool library, the excavator can quickly replace the tool, allowing it to perform multiple tasks seamlessly.

But the DEFT excavator is not just about functionality; it also aims to establish an emotional connection between the machine and its users. The designers wanted to eliminate the traditional cold and impersonal impression of machinery and create a machine that users could love. The DEFT project started in October 2012 and was completed in July 2013 at the Luxun Academy of Fine Arts. Since its creation, this innovative design has been recognized and awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Heavy Machinery Design category in 2015. This prestigious award is bestowed upon designs that demonstrate outstanding creativity, resourcefulness, and technical skills, contributing to improvements in quality of life.
